What is Baptism?
“Receiving the Sacrament of Baptism signifies entrance into Christian life. It is the sacrament which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we become members of Christ. Being incorporated into the Church means we are sharers in her mission: Baptism is a sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.”

Baptisms are ordinarily scheduled on the 2nd Sunday of the month, and after the 8:30 or 11:00 a.m. Mass. Other arrangements can be made at the discretion of the pastor.
Usually, the family of the person(s) to be baptized are members of the parish. Those families who are not members of the parish and are seeking a baptism must secure permission from their local Catholic pastor to have the baptism take place at St. Francis deSales.

1. Are there any requirements in order to have my child baptized at Saint Francis de Sales Parish?
- Parents/Guardians are required to meet with the Pastor. This can be after the 8:30 or 11:00 Mass on Sunday, or call for an appointment at the parish office.
- We ask that the family attend the chosen Mass, even if the baptism is after Mass.
- We ask the parents or guardians of the person being baptized to write a letter to him/her, explaining why they are having this individual baptized. That letter may be read at the ceremony but will stay with the family.
2. Who can be a godparent?
- One of the godparents should be Roman Catholic. It is preferred that godparents be practicing and confirmed Catholics and at least 16 years old.
3. Can a non-Catholic be a godparent?
- Yes, a non-Catholic Christian can serve as a godparent.
4. What if the godparents cannot come to the actual celebration?
- You can have a proxy stand-in for the godparent(s). Please let the staff know so they can record the name of the actual sponsor on the baptism certificate.
